Overview
What the FARO Orbis is for
The Orbis is FARO's answer to a real workflow problem. Mobile SLAM scanners are fast but looser; terrestrial scanners are tight but slow. The Orbis does both in one device. You walk the site capturing at 5 mm precision, and wherever you need real detail you stop and trigger a Flash scan, which resolves to 2 mm in about 15 seconds including colour. FARO calls this Hybrid Reality Capture, and it means one trip instead of two crews.
Choosing
Is the FARO Orbis right for your job?
Good candidate when
Firms whose work is mostly interiors and as-builts with a handful of tight-tolerance areas per job. The Flash capture means one purchase covers what usually takes two tools.
Consider another route when
Pure underground work, where the Hovermap is purpose-built. And full metrology, where a Focus on a tripod is still the answer.
Against the alternativesAgainst the RS7: the Orbis costs more and buys the 2 mm static capture. Against a Focus Premium: the Orbis is faster over a whole building, the Focus is better on any single tight area.
