Valley work covers ground rather than climbing it. Greenfield site development, semiconductor and data-centre campuses, utility corridors, and freeway projects such as the Loop 303 and Loop 101 improvements all mean large-area topographic capture on a schedule. Aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry do in a day what a ground crew would take a week over, and network RTK handles the control.

Phoenix is running one of the largest greenfield construction booms in the US, driven by semiconductor fabrication, data centres, and freeway expansion funded under Proposition 479. That work is horizontal, large-area and schedule-driven, which puts aerial mapping and network RTK at the centre of most crews' equipment decisions rather than interior capture.

Much of the Valley sits in controlled airspace tied to Sky Harbor, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway and Deer Valley, where LAANC authorization applies, and active freeway corridors add their own constraints. Check current requirements with the FAA before operating.
Arizona defines its State Plane coordinates in the international foot by statute, exactly 0.3048 metres, not the US survey foot used historically in Texas, Colorado and Florida. A crew carrying its home unit across the state line introduces a systematic error of roughly two parts per million, which is about 1.4 feet on a 700,000 foot easting. Arizona also has documented groundwater subsidence and earth fissures, monitored by ADWR across more than 4,300 square miles by InSAR.
