New York workflows

What the work looks like here

New York work is vertical and interior-heavy: facade inspection, floor-by-floor as-builts, MEP coordination, and existing-conditions capture in buildings that cannot be shut down. GNSS is often unusable between towers, so SLAM handhelds and terrestrial scanners carry the load, and the borough datum question comes up on nearly every site with a sewer connection.

Local market

The New York market

New York is the largest, densest construction and AEC market in the US, where vertical construction, transit and infrastructure megaprojects, and heritage and facility documentation drive heavy demand for 3D laser scanning and SLAM mobile mapping for BIM and as-builts. ScanSupply supplies and supports that equipment with genuine gear, warranty, and real configuration help, not a distant catalog.

Local fit

Set up for how you work in New York

Works with NYSNet and your RTK network

New York surveyors use NYSNet, the New York State DOT real-time network, alongside commercial casters such as Trimble VRS Now and Leica SmartNet, with NOAA CORS underpinning post-processing. Our GNSS receivers connect over NTRIP to these and to your own base. Tell us your correction source and we confirm compatibility.

Built for NYC airspace and drone rules

Commercial drone work in the US requires an FAA Part 107 certificate, and New York City adds a real local layer: city rules restrict drone takeoff and landing to designated sites, so legal operation in the five boroughs requires coordination with the authorities. We help you choose a platform and plan that fits how mapping is actually permitted here.

The datum trap in New York

The Long Island Zone covers the five boroughs plus Nassau and Suffolk. Westchester sits in the East Zone, so a job that crosses the city line north changes zone. Legacy borough sewer datums are also still in circulation; the offset to NAVD88 varies and has to come from a New York licensed surveyor rather than a published table.

Correction networks operating in this market

We confirm which network you run and verify the receiver configuration against it before quoting. We do not publish mountpoints or credentials, and we do not claim compatibility we have not checked.

FAQ

Buying survey gear in New York

Which equipment suits dense NYC scan-to-BIM and as-built work?

For tight, complex interiors and facades, terrestrial laser scanners deliver millimetre detail while handheld SLAM scanners capture whole floors fast. Many NYC teams use both. We'll match a system to your BIM and as-built deliverables.

Can I fly a mapping drone in New York City?

Commercial flights require FAA Part 107, and NYC restricts takeoff and landing to designated sites, so operations need local coordination on top of the FAA rules. We can point you to a platform suited to how mapping is permitted in the city.
